Editor’s Note: Two of us saw what appeared to be a tall, dark shadow running through the woods deep in Gallow’s Lane right after we parked our car. These will be a write up about this under investigations shortly. It was, however, not at all a lengthy investigation.

Gallows Lane, New London CT 2010
Gallows Lane in New London holds ground to a long and murderous history, dating back to the BC’s. P.R.O.O.F received an email from the agricultural department of Conn College “Connecticut College”. Dr. Rossburg expressed her concerns leaving speculation to what had really happened on Gallows Lane. Regardless of what opinions P.R.O.O.F representatives held, P.R.O.O.F decided to take on the case with expectations of perhaps unraveling the truth behind the gallows legend. P.R.O.O.F requested that the area be temporarily shutdown until the conclusion of the investigation, Dr. Rossburg, kindly obliged. The investigation was initially scheduled for a 24 hour investigation. Nevertheless due to the high amounts of evidence and paranormal phenomena, P.R.O.O.F ended up conducting the investigation for 72 hours. this leaving us with hours upon hours of review. Gallows Lane was found to be the ancient site for witch trials, wherein, a total of 32 “accused” were hung and burned at the steak. Please keep checking back for the running of our evidence page.

Quaker Hill: Gallows Lane
It’s been said this is where a lot of witches were burned, though there is no real record. However, if you walk down the road (even in the middle of the day) you get the ominous feelings that you are being watched and followed. One person who has done a séance there reported there was the shrill voice of an old woman that told him to go away and never come back, though there was no one in sight, the voice seemed to be all around him. Most people from that area won’t walk down that road alone, especially at night.

In the Arboretum on Gallows Lane, you can still hear the screams of a woman that once swung from the gallows.
Editor’s Note: We heard this and may have it on tape.

Creepy Lane Speaks for Itself
Gallows Lane in Waterford is another nice spot to find a ghost – when you get a public execution, you get a public ghost. According to the website,
“It’s been said that this is where a lot of witches were burned though there is no real record. However, if you walk down the road (even in the middle of the day) you get the ominous feeling that not only are you being watched but also followed. One person who has done a séance there reported that there was the shrill voice of an old woman that told him to go away and never come back, though there was no one in sight, the voice seemed to be all around him. This description of witch burning is not really accurate. But we did have a significant hanging. An event that was so well attended that the street was aptly named Gallows Lane. Local historical novelist Mary Cahill explains, “Sara Bramble had a bastard child in March of 1752. She hid it under her bed and when her masters went out (she was a servant) tried to burn it up in the fireplace. She was tried and found guilty and hung. Joshua Hempstead reports in his diaries “Wednesday 21: Misty&rained moderately In the afternoon I rid up to the Cross Highway above Jno Bolles to see Sarah Bramble executed for the Murdering her bastard child in march last was a year Since. She was hanged at 3 o’clock. a crowd of spectators of all sexes and nations are among us from the neighboring town as well as this. Judged to be ten thousand.” I am amazed at the crowd, and in the rain. The Hempstead Diaries cover a lot of that in detail if you’re looking for a definitive source.
