EQOA Frontiers, PS2: A Wonderful Return

by tss on Friday, March 5th, 2010

A friend and I decided to start playing this very, very epic game of yesteryear: Everquest Online Adventures Frontiers

After finding my disc and ordering the Logitech keyboard controller I went to GameStop to buy a used PS2. Got it back to my house and hooked it up. After entering my credit card information about ten times I finally got on-line. Walked my existing Level 9 Necro Elf (I think) out of some necro zone and began traipsing up a hill to kill some stuff and my PS2 died. It will be returned first thing in the morning. By this time tomorrow night I plan on having my Level 9 up to about 15 … I am hoping. That is if the next used PS2 works. Talk about being bummed in the gob.

This is hilarious. I once posted an ad on Fark. This is the feedback. Folks, this is really, really funny.

No, but you sure suck it.

zing! Nice one, The Damned

Yet Another Web Site-In-A-Box

SoylentGreen 2004-06-05 01:56:51 AM
I enjoy your gratuitous use of large, good-quality images. Use more.

If you design a broadband-only page, that would be pretty unique. Everyone always tries to cater to the dial-up people, and I’m sick of seeing 99% compressed mini-JPG’s all over the place. Wake up people! The world is going broadband!

Please change your logo. It looks like a terrorist with an enormous bong.

Okay, after hitting refresh I’ve been inspired to post some actual feedback.

Quote, “Note: This either looks really cute or gay as hell. However, I shall keep my mouth shut.” Who uses “gay” in this context anymore besides twelve year olds?

What is so popular about light text on dark backgrounds? BTW, the contrast on this Web site makes text hard to read.

Horizontal scrollbars are teh suck.

Rename “Smack Talkin’” to “Random Chat Logs of Banality’”

Go Oilers?

You should add “X-treme” somewhere in the title and I’m sure that would help.

….none at all.

You know, video game reviews is one area in which the internet has been sadly lacking until now. It’s great to see this void finally being filled.

Day job, quitting, etc.

I love reading grey text on greyer background.

nuclear_asshat 2004-06-06 08:31:24 PM
I like the content, I agree this looks like every other “fark YOU KISS OUR ASS” website.

They really need to move away from game sites that look like the back of video game boxes. You never really stay at those sites very long.

White space is good. Seriously. So is CSS.

I also like numerical game reviews. I know it sounds cheesy, but quantifiable numbers really tells me a lot about a game. Big difference between an 84% recommend and a 95% recommend.

boot20 2004-06-07 06:51:07 PM
Arg…what happened to good ol’ jpgs and gifs that don’t take 20 hours to dl on a dial up?

On that note, interesting site, but what is unique about your content? Why should I keep going back? What makes you different than any other gaming website?

Also:
light grey text on a grey background == BAD
Huge image files == BAD
Strange navigation (a cascading menu system or a outline style menu system would be nice) == BAD
Reviews that aren’t reviews == BAD

” … a seriously gamey website.” — G4TV

I thought I smelled something a bit off…

Ishkur 2004-06-08 06:07:24 PM
also: “video gaming with attitude?!” Of all the proactive, commercialized, generation X-tream, Poochie the Dog catchphrases……why hello there, slogan from 1992. Seriously, who the hell has an attitude anymore? That can mean anything. It could be a good attitude or a sad attitude. You might as well just say “video gaming with an outlook on life!”

tss 2004-06-09 12:23:14 PM
o man this is some funny stuff. where to start.

how are my reviews not reviews? are you expecting numbers? i hate numbers. i would much rather read a person’s experience with said game than a 5.

some of your insults are very nice. i am especially fond of The Damned’s insult: No, but you sure suck it. okay, damned, as if i am the one who sucks it.

for those of you who read more than just look at the huperlinks and bold face type, you already know that the site is quality. most of the big sites are licking the nuts of sony or whoever will give them free shiat. most sites will give a shiatty game a great score just on the box art and theory. you won’t see that at serious fix.

as for the “gaming with attitude” thing … yea that does kind of suck. it was the best i could come up with this time in the fark ads. i will say that i have received the most hits i have ever received from a fark classified, so there must be others reacting to that phrase in some manner… be it positive or negative i could care less.

thanks to you people with positive feedback and constructive critisism. they are being pondered and i believe several ideas will be used.

all in all this has been a rather humorous romp. i thank you all for the laughter.

I don’t know much about Sponge Bob, but I think that starfish thing in the first screen capture is wearing crotchless pants.

As far as the ratings comment…I usually don’t read the review for the ratings, but a catagorized score and some bulleted pros and cons at the end of the review definitely help.

smedrick 2004-06-09 02:24:00 PM
Oh, and don’t listen to the image size rants…like SoylentGreen, I appreciate websites that don’t cater to dial-up users.

kurt-roges 2004-06-09 04:58:02 PM
Your writing is a mix of low-quality blogging, pretentious assholery (‘I will unveil more of this as it unfolds?’ what’s wrong with ‘more news to come?’ And anyone who uses the word ‘whilst’ should be shot), and a liberal amount of swear words, with a misspelling thrown in every once in a while for good measure. I won’t mention anything about site layout or coloring, since 0xYossarian pretty much nailed it.

Good job stealing those FFXI images right from GameStop, too. I especially like how you flat-out say that you hadn’t actually seen the content of the image in the game you reviewed. Wonder what’ll happen if they ever disallow remote linking?

Not bad for someone still in high school, but go to college and get a journalism degree then apply for a job with a real outfit.

LosMiedos 2004-06-10 01:56:39 PM
Although it is sometimes hard to see what lies ahead due to pixilation, this game is looks great

I’m glad the game is looks great. Your website are have crappy content (as well as design) and the reviews is be serious lack.

Your site is quality? The only kind of quality I see is that of the crappy variety. Last time I checked, quality was a buzzword where grammatically challenged asshats forget the required adjective.

Unlike the big review sites, you give no insight into the game or it’s developers. Your analysis of a game is shallow and you lack basic writing skills. Your review of the game is about the same as me asking 2nd grade child and getting the response “it was cool cause when I killed people there was blood.” Professional game reviewing is not for you.

Zap_Rowsdower 2004-06-10 11:39:51 PM
for those of you who read more than just look at the huperlinks and bold face type, you already know that the site is quality

Yes, yes. You’re superior to the rest of us, we don’t know what you’re talking about, and you do, yadda yadda yadda. Blah blah blah blah. You and every other crappy classified ad placer on Fark.

The fact remains that I spent about 20 seconds on your site, and that was enough to convince me that I had no interest in ever returning.

0xYossarian 2004-06-16 10:11:05 PM
I went back to see the starfish with the crotchless pants and the terrorist with the enormous bong.
