YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT!

As I was looking for filler to throw into the Creature with the Atom Brain review I found the Atomic Monsters site. This site kicks serious atomic testes. Just looking at the pictures was enough for me, but when I dug into the articles … I found this site has everything a B-Movie monster fan would want. This site even has a jukebox … A JUKEBOX!

WARNING: If you do not go to the Atomic Monsters site atomic supermen from the planet Atom will come for you in the night and breathe radiation emanations into you.

serious kudos to this site has to be shared. You people have to at least visit it to see it. Now excuse me while I kiss this site (said the way Jimi Hendrix would have said it … natch).

Creature with the Atom Brain (1955)

by tss on Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Creature with the Atom Brain is about some mob dude that teams up with a German scientist to bring the dead to life so he can kill the people who busted/deported him.  The creatures walk slow, talk slow and look like their heads were cut in half and then stitched in one of those special people workshops. Even Rahm Emanuel could have done a better job back in his dancing days with a butter knife and Elmer’s Glue. Oh, let us not forget how “radiation emanations” are the things that finally lead to the location of the bad mob dude and the German scientist who obviously was a reject from Operation Paperclip (they probably let him live because they knew he would go on to act).

This film is a classic cheese.  Sure, if you are the type of person who only likes watching new films that throw action at you non-stop you won’t get anything out of this.  But for the old scifi/horror/cheese film nerds out there like myself, this is time well spent.

For poops and grins I found some Creature with the Atom Brain stuff online.  From Rocky Erickson and beyond … enjoy!

GAZE AT THE SCRIPTURE OF THE ATOM BRAIN!

Rocky Erickson wrote a song entitled Creature with the Atom Brain about this movie:

The creature with the Atom brain
The creature with the atom brain
Why is he acting so strange?
The creature with the atom brain

He threw the dog right down
Ripped his arms off and threw them on the ground
The creature with the atom brain
The creature with the atom brain

Do you think he’s one of them?
Do you think he’s one of them?
The creature with the atom brain
The creature with the atom brain

No one stitches like that
No one stitches like that
The creature with the atom brain
The creature with the atom brain

SPOKEN:
I told you I’d come back…
Remember Buchanan? But you’re not Buchanan…
I don’t look like him, but I am him…
Don’t you recognize the voice Jim?
I promised to see you die…and I will…

SUNG:
The creature with the atom brain
The creature with the atom brain
(repeat and ad. lib. till end)

Pandorum…

by Dan on Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Don’t let the critics ruin this one for you. I’m serious.

Pandorum is not trying to compete with the Oscar crowd. Some critics understand that, but most don’t. It is in a different league, playing a different game. This is not supposed to be “smart sci-fi” or even a social parable (although there are elements of that). It is also not torture porn as the posters imply. It is a solid, engaging story. Nothing more, and definitely nothing less.

I bought a ticket to this film without even reading a review, which is rare for me, but I had a feeling about it. I knew that the director had worked on the Resident Evil films previously, so I expected some variation of Super Mutated Zombies in Space with less Milla Jovovich and more sausage. Even if the film never superceded those expectations, I wouldn’t have felt taken advantage of, but by the time I left the theater, my hunger was satisfied and I was happily picking sausage out of my teeth. OK, that was a little bit homoerotic, but you get it. Where the Resident Evil films partially rode on the long, silky legs of Milla Jovovich (one more!), Pandorum is sure-footed enough to calm down the teen boy pandering and give us an adult story that stands tall on its own right.

The ride starts when two officers wake up from a long period of hypersleep. Their memories are vague at first, but the pieces are filled in nicely throughout the film. Without ruining any more than the first ten minutes of the film, the two men decide to cycle the reactor on the ship, which amounts to a somewhat logical catalyst for the plot. The story that follows is a mix between Alien and The Shining with elements of physical and psychological terror – the psychological manifesting itself in the form of a space psychosis called “pandorum.” That’s all I will say about the plot because that’s all that I knew when I decided to see it. For those of you who are intrigued by my semi-coherent advertisement for the film, don’t read any more reviews. Break the piggy bank, count your pennies, buy yourself a ticket, and embrace the sausagey goodness of this slick, sci-fi spectacle!

Wolfenstein (PS3 Demo) [Play Wolfenstein 3D in Your Browser]

by tss on Thursday, September 24th, 2009

In an age where Nazis are starting a global Holocaust via science, Wolfenstein is released and I have downloaded the demo for some much needed catharsis. The demo is pretty fine. It’s nothing spectacular, but it sure gets the job done. I have read a lot of mediocre reviews about the veil … (an occult artifact that lets you slip in and out of a world that is green but shows you weak spots in enemies and stuff) … but I kind of like it. I may just trade a few things in for this. Not quite sure. Definitely download the demo. It’s a good time popping off Nazis … as it should be.
